Complete Finished Knives
Pelletizing Knives for Underwater Pelletizing Systems
JINFENG manufactures complete pelletizing knives ready for installation in underwater pelletizing systems. Knives are customized from customer drawings, samples, mounting dimensions, polymer information, and operating conditions.
Complete Pelletizing Knives
Our team can assess an existing knife, dimensional data, or a related cutter hub to define the required interfaces and supply scope.
The supplied product is a finished pelletizing knife with the geometry and mounting features required for installation. Customers may refer to these components as pelletizer knives, pelletizing knives, or pelletizer blades; JINFENG supplies complete pelletizing knives rather than individual blades.
Knives can be supplied in the quantity required for the customer's cutter assembly. Pelletizer shafts and complete rotor assemblies are outside the current supply scope.
JINFENG exports more than 500 composite pelletizing knives a year to Indonesia and keeps knives in stock for urgent replacement.
Customized from Drawings or Samples
A knife inquiry can begin with an existing drawing, a physical sample, or clear dimensional information. The assessment typically considers:
- Overall dimensions
- Mounting and locating features
- Working-area geometry
- Required quantity
- Equipment information for component identification
- Polymer and operating conditions
- Material and hardness requirements shown on the drawing
- Inspection or documentation requirements
When a sample is provided, it can be evaluated together with the available equipment and operating information. The final configuration is agreed after the relevant interfaces and requirements have been established.
Working-Area Material Options
Material selection for the working area depends on the component design and operating requirements. Available working-area material systems include:
- Ferro-Titanit® Nikro 128
- Ferro-Titanit® Nikro 143
- JINFENG proprietary nickel-based titanium-carbide cermet (TiC cermet)
JINFENG's cermet uses a TiC hard phase with a nickel-chromium binder. It keeps its hardness up to about 800 °C and combines wear, heat, and corrosion resistance. Solid tool-steel knives in 9Cr18Mo, 9Cr18MoV, W6, or T15 are also available. Material selection should be matched to the drawing and the operating information supplied for the application.
Hardness by Material and Working Area
Hardness values apply to the identified working-area material, not to the complete knife:
- Ferro-Titanit® Nikro 128 working area: 56–64 HRC
- Ferro-Titanit® Nikro 143 working area: 56–64 HRC
- JINFENG proprietary nickel-based TiC cermet working area: 56–65 HRC
For Nikro 128 and Nikro 143, the commonly used control target is 58–62 HRC when the customer has no special requirement. Rockwell C hardness (HRC) requirements are matched to the material callout and the relevant working area.
Service Life by Material
| Working-area material | Wear resistance | Self-sharpening | Reference service life | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TiC-NiCr cermet (JINFENG) | Excellent | Good | 3 months or more | PE, PP |
| TiC-Fe steel-bonded carbide (e.g. Ferro-Titanit® Nikro) | Good | Excellent | 2 months or more | PP, PE |
| Tool steel (9Cr18Mo, 9Cr18MoV, W6, T15) | Lower | Excellent | 10 days or more | High melt-index grades |
Knife Body Materials
- 40Cr: good toughness, for lines with frequent process changes and slightly alkaline water
- 2Cr13: good corrosion resistance, for stable operation and slightly acidic water
- 17-4PH: balanced overall properties and the most widely used body material
Choosing a Knife Material
| Situation | Working-area material | Knife body |
|---|---|---|
| Long campaigns on PE or PP, longest knife life wanted | TiC-NiCr cermet (JINFENG) | 17-4PH |
| General PP or PE service where self-sharpening matters | TiC-Fe steel-bonded carbide (Ferro-Titanit® Nikro) | 17-4PH |
| High melt-index grades | Tool steel (9Cr18Mo, 9Cr18MoV, W6, T15) | — |
| Frequent process changes, slightly alkaline water | As above, by polymer | 40Cr |
| Stable operation, slightly acidic water | As above, by polymer | 2Cr13 |

Manufacturing Capabilities
JINFENG's in-house manufacturing capabilities include CNC machining, grinding, vacuum brazing, and heat treatment. The manufacturing route is selected according to the knife design, material system, and agreed order requirements.
Drawings and samples are checked before production so that mounting features, working areas, and inspection points can be identified clearly.
Inspection for Pelletizer Knives
Inspection for pelletizer knives is based on the drawing and order requirements. Relevant in-house capabilities include:
- Dimensional inspection
- Hardness testing
- Surface inspection
Customers should identify any required inspection points or documentation with the inquiry. Die-hole inspection and heating-channel pressure testing apply to relevant die plate work and are described on the Quality Control page.
Case: Emergency Knife Supply for Pellet Tails
At Shandong Yulong Petrochemical, imported polyethylene pelletizing knives chipped and tore at the edge, and the line started producing pellets with tails. JINFENG took knives from its own stock, sent a technician with them by air the same day, and helped the customer sharpen the knives until the line was producing on-spec pellets again.
Chipped or worn knives are one of the most common causes of pellet tails. See Pellet Tails in Underwater Pelletizing: Causes and Fixes.
Pelletizer Cutter Hubs
A pelletizer cutter hub is the circular hub or disc that carries multiple pelletizing knives. It connects to the pelletizer shaft and positions the knives relative to the die plate.
JINFENG makes both flexible and rigid cutter hubs. A flexible hub uses a connection that lets the hub oscillate slightly under load so the knives follow the die face; with a rigid hub, the knife-to-die-plate gap is controlled precisely by the cutter shaft. Worn cutter hubs can also be reconditioned and tested.
JINFENG can manufacture cutter hubs from customer drawings or evaluate an existing sample. Cutter hubs may be supplied separately or together with finished pelletizing knives. Drawings, dimensions, shaft-interface details, knife positions, and operating conditions are used to verify the required configuration.
See Pelletizer Cutter Hubs for flexible and rigid hub designs and hub reconditioning.

For a cutter hub, also include the shaft connection, mounting interfaces, number and position of knives, and any available hub drawing or sample information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you manufacture pelletizer knives from a sample?
Yes. A sample can be evaluated with the available dimensions, equipment information, polymer, and operating conditions.
Do you supply individual blades separately?
JINFENG supplies complete pelletizing knives ready for installation rather than individual blades.
Can you supply the knives and cutter hub together?
Yes. Finished pelletizing knives and a customized cutter hub can be supplied together after the drawings, interfaces, and required knife positions have been evaluated.
What information is needed to check whether a knife or cutter hub fits my equipment?
Please provide the drawing, dimensions, mounting interfaces, equipment information, photographs, and relevant operating conditions. Equipment brand or model alone is not enough to define the required component.
How long do pelletizer knives last?
As reference values from JINFENG supply experience, TiC-NiCr cermet knives last three months or more on PE and PP, TiC-Fe knives two months or more, and tool-steel knives about ten days or more on high melt-index grades. Actual life depends on the polymer, throughput, water quality, and knife pressure.
Which knife material should I choose for PP or PE?
For long campaigns on PP or PE, JINFENG's TiC-NiCr cermet gives the longest reference life. TiC-Fe (Ferro-Titanit® Nikro) is a good general choice where self-sharpening matters. Tool-steel knives are used for high melt-index grades.
Can you supply pelletizer knives urgently?
JINFENG keeps knives in stock. In one case, knives were taken from stock and flown to a customer's plant with a technician on the same day to stop pellet tails caused by chipped imported knives.
